Greenwood's long-term future unclearCurrently on loan at GetafeNot expected to play for Manchester United againWHAT HAPPENED?

Greenwood's loan club Getafe have confirmed they are considering signing the forward permanently after his contract expires at the end of the season. Getafe will only have to pay 80% of any agreed price with United, according to The Athletic. The Spanish side also stand to profit if Greenwood moves elsewhere. Getafe will earn 20% of his transfer fee if United end up selling him to another club due to a clause in his contract. The clause was inserted into the loan deal as Getafe did not pay a fee to sign the forward and United viewed it as "a way to secure value regardless of his next move."

Greenwood's long-term future remains unclear for the time being. He has a contract at United until 2025 but is not expected to play for the club again, although the Red Devils have not yet made a final decision on the 22-year-old. Getafe have made it clear they are interested in keeping Greenwood and may face competition from other clubs. Valencia and Real Sociedad are reported to have taken an interest in the forward, while Premier League clubs are said to have regularly scouted the Manchester United loanee.

WHAT GETAFE PRESIDENT ANGEL TORRES SAID

Torres said: "We have not talked about price. We have talked about looking at the situation and seeing what they propose because there has also been a change of shareholding there at Manchester (United).

“But we are still happy with the meetings and with the videoconferences we have with them. It is still too early to consider either continuing for one more season or that they will propose a price and we will commit the whole (of the contract) because we have a percentage and to buy the rest.

“I believe a lot (in Greenwood). From here, we continue to work periodically, we continue to meet with Manchester (United) to see if they are happy. The truth is that they are happy with the treatment, not only from the fans of Getafe, but also from the whole Spain. Now we have to keep on defending him.

“He didn’t play for 16 months and I think that in January, February he will be able to get the rhythm. He will give us satisfaction.”
